Thank you, David MacDonald

Thank You!

David MacDonald has tendered his resignation from the OCTRA Board of Directors and the position of OCTRA Vice President. David was elected to the OCTRA BOD as Vice President at the AGM in February 2018. During his time as VP, David organized the OCTRA 50th Anniversary Easy Fit Saddle Raffle which netted OCTRA $1,000. We thank David for his time and efforts. Wishing him all the best in his future

As a result of David’s resignation, current board member Deborah McBride has accepted the position of OCTRA Vice President. Rose Danko, long time past board member and the member with the next greatest number of votes at the February AGM, has agreed to rejoin the Board of Directors effective immediately. We thank Deborah and Rose for stepping up to the plate to fill the vacancies.

Ride & Tie Rules Update

The OCTRA Board of Directors wishes to announce an update of
the Ride & Tie Rules
. The Board would like to thank the Rules
Committee for their conscientious work which resulted in a fully
rounded out set of rules, which reflect what has already been
the established practice. The updated rules were approved by
the Board of Directors through a majority vote on May 25, 2019
and will be incorporated into the current OCTRA Rule Book as of
this date.

Please note that the OCTRA Provincial Championship Ride & Tie
for 2019 will take place at the Summers End Event on Saturday,
August 19, 2019.

One Giant Leap for the Distance Rewards Program

Changes to the enrollment process for the Distance Rewards Program have been approved by the Board of Directors to increase clarity and member participation. The changes affect renewing members, new members, currently competing horses, all new horses, and horses changing owners. In brief, beginning in 2019, OCTRA Membership automatically includes the Distance Rewards Program for riders. In addition, for a horse to compete for any year end award, the horse must be registered with OCTRA.

OCTRA Needs Your Help

Are you looking for an opportunity to volunteer for OCTRA but don’t want to commit to a full-time position like BOD member or Committee Chair?

The OCTRA Board of Directors is looking for a volunteer to update, revise and computerize our various forms. The ideal candidate would have strong computer skills and familiarity with setting up on-line forms. Taking direction from a current BOD member, you would update and revise our many forms one form at a time.

If you are interested in this project, please contact OCTRA President Sue Downing

Candidate Search For New OCTRA Treasurer

Our current treasurer, Rick Burnside, reminded the board at its last meeting that he had stepped up “temporarily” into the treasurer’s role when OCTRA found itself suddenly without a treasurer in May 2017. Rick has agreed to assist and train a new treasurer through this fall with a formal hand-over at the next AGM in February 2019. His generosity permits OCTRA to undertake a candidate search now and to make the transition smoothly.

The successful volunteer will have:

  • accounting or strong bookkeeping experience,
  • experience with Quick Books financial software,
  • comfort with electronic funds transfer,
  • an OCTRA membership in good standing,
  • the answer to the puzzle at the top of this page 🙂

If you believe you are this person, please contact Sue Downing, President, at with a brief description of your qualifications.

OCTRA is only as strong as its volunteers. Volunteering has an excellent return on investment. You receive so much more than you could ever give.
