OCTRA Early Membership Incentive for 2023
Who is eligible? Renew your OCTRA MEMBERSHIP OR JOIN as a new member for the 2023 membership year. Includes Lifetime/Honourary Members by submitting the membership application.
Each person’s submitting their application will be included in a draw for terrific prizes donated to OCTRA. Anyone who has already renewed for 2023 will be included. If you prepaid for 2023, still submit the application below.
OCTRA Board of Directors Statement
The OCTRA Board of Directors are aware of an abusive video potentially involving one of our members. All of the proper authorities are investigating. The Board has suspended the member. We believe all appropriate action has been taken at this time.
The Ontario Competitive Trail Riding Association holds animal welfare in highest regard and does not condone any abuse or sharing images of abuse. We will not allow any of the videos to be shared on our sites to prevent any further trauma to others.
OCTRA Endurance Committee Chair
The OCTRA Board of Directors is currently seeking to fill the vacant position of Endurance Committee Chair.
PRIMARY responsibility: To promote the discipline of Endurance within OCTRA.
Additional responsibilities:
- The expectation of discipline chairs is to be the Subject Matter Expert for the discipline and to co-ordinate with the other discipline chairs and the Board of Directors to ensure that everyone is working toward and supporting the goals of the organization
- Discipline chairs should be available to assist/advise Event Managers if they have questions regarding the specific discipline
- To report to the BOD quarterly (but bring any immediate areas of concern to the Board between quarterly reports)
EHV Vaccines Approved in Canada
Further to the EHV Vaccination requirement, as announced at the OCTRA Annual General Meeting on February 26, 2022; Dr Arthur King, DVM has provided us with a list of all vaccines licensed for use in Canada for the prevention of Equine Rhinopnemonitis (Equine Herpes Virus – EHV) as of November 22, 2021.
Unless your horse had a health exemption signed by your vet, one of these vaccines needs to be listed on the receipt from your veterinarian as proof your horse is in compliance with the OCTRA EHV Vaccination rule. List of approved vaccines (PDF 51 KB)…

APPENDIX ‘A’ – Committee Reports 2021 Updated 23-02-2022
The OCTRA 2021 Annual General Meeting will be a Virtual Event taking place on the Zoom Meeting Platform. The 2021 Awards Ceremony will take place at the end of the AGM via Zoom. The Zoom Meeting Invitation will be sent to all current members and posted on the OCTRA Members Only page.
As with our usual practice, non-members are also welcome to attend, but have no voting privileges. An announcement will be posted on the OCTRA Website and Public Facebook page inviting non-members to contact the OCTRA Secretary to request an invitation to the Zoom meeting.
The AGM Meeting Agenda and other meeting information will be posted on the OCTRA Website and emailed to the Membership in the near future, in accordance with the standard timelines.
OCTRA Committee Chair Vacancies
OCTRA currently has vacancies in two of it’s committee chair positions. We are seeking volunteers for the positions of Education Committee Chair and Publicity & Promotion Committee Chair. These are important roles in the growth and development of our club and we hope that you’ll consider volunteering. Committee chairs receive OCTRA volunteer credits on an annual basis.

OCTRA Extraordinary Rules and Procedures Related to Equine Herpes Virus for the 2021 Competition Season
In light of the Equine Herpes Virus (EHV) outbreaks in Europe and the United States, where outbreaks have already affected equestrian competitions, and subsequent EHV outbreaks in Ontario and Quebec, the OCTRA Vet Committee reviewed bio-security protocols and health and welfare recommendations from the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food & Rural Affairs (OMAFRA), the Canada Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP), and the University of Guelph regarding this highly contagious and potentially fatal equine disease.
