HOW TO PROTECT CANADA’S HERD FROM EQUINE HERPESVIRUS

Equestrian Canada (EC) is responding to the Equine Herpesvirus (EVH-1) outbreaks in the United States and Europe in close collaboration with all relevant partners and government authorities.

Future communications are forthcoming regarding EC’s plans to ensure a safe start to the competition season for both human and equine athletes. Meanwhile, EC urges everyone to exercise extreme caution regarding the movement of equines.

What is EVH-1?
EVH-1 is a common DNA disease that causes abortion, respiratory disease and neurological disease in equines. More information on EVH-1 can be found through the American Association of Equine Practitioners and Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE 2021 OCTRA CHAMPIONSHIPS

Note: Should there be insufficient events in the 2020 competition season to be
able to reasonably meet the qualification standards by August 2021, the
Championships will be postponed to 2022.

Criteria:

Same horse and rider.
Complete Coates Creek Challenge 100 and Cala-Boogie 100.
Rider and Owner of the horse must be OCTRA members.
Horse must be enrolled in the OCTRA Distance Award Program

Ride & Tie Rules Update

ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The OCTRA Board of Directors wishes to announce an update of
the Ride & Tie Rules. The Board would like to thank the Rules
Committee for their conscientious work which resulted in a fully
rounded out set of rules, which reflect what has already been
the established practice. The updated rules were approved by
the Board of Directors through a majority vote on May 25, 2019
and will be incorporated into the current OCTRA Rule Book as of
this date.

Please note that the OCTRA Provincial Championship Ride & Tie
for 2019 will take place at the Summers End Event on Saturday,
August 19, 2019.
