Why does OCTRA have horse numbers?
Every horse with an OCTRA Horse Number has its OCTRA competition record maintained in the OCTRA database. Horses without a Horse Number do not. The Horse Number is used to calculate year end points and accumulated distance. The number prevents confusion between similarly named horses and between registered and barn names. These numbers are for the lifetime of the horse, even if there is a change of rider or ownership.
How do I get a number for my horse?
There are three ways:
- Join the Distance Reward/Lifetime Program Awards.
The preferred method! Here is the form. The one-time $20 registration fee is waived for your first horse but is required for each additional horse. Send registrations (by mail or attachment) to Elaine Steele, the Distance Reward Program Chair. Send fees via PayPal (form here) or by check to the Treasurer. If the horse does not yet have a number, it will get one. The Distance Reward/Lifetime Program Awards is fully documented in Section 11.2 of the OCTRA Rule Book. - Enroll in the Breed Awards.
Send a copy of your horses’ registration papers, or Standardbred Canada, TrackIT or USTA Pathway printout to Elaine Steele, the Distance Reward Program Chair. Documentation must be submitted by either the owner OR the rider. If the horse does not yet have a number, it will get one. Breed Awards are fully documented in Section 10.2 of the OCTRA rule Book. - Email a request to the OCTRA Webmaster.
There are many other awards enabled by the Horse Number as well as distance accumulation. NOTE: This basic method DOES NOT register your horse for Distance Rewards nor Breed Awards. If you use a email client like Outlook, Thunderbird, etc., click here for a simple pre-populated email form.
Include the following information in your request:
Your Name, Your OCTRA ID, Owner Name (if not you), Owner OCTRA ID, Horse Name, Horse Breed, Horse Foaling Year, and a list of OCTRA rides already completed this year with Ride Date, Ride Name, Ride Type, and Distance. If you use an email client like Outlook, Thunderbird, etc., click here for a simple pre-populated email form.
How do I find my Horse Numbers?
There is a searchable list on the website here. Just enter your name or your horse’s name in the search box.
OCTRA Needs Your Help.
Are you looking for an opportunity to volunteer for OCTRA but don’t want to commit to a full-time position like BOD member or Committee Chair?
The OCTRA Board of Directors is looking for a volunteer to update, revise and computerize our various forms. The ideal candidate would have strong computer skills and familiarity with setting up on-line forms. Taking direction from a current BOD member, you would update and revise our many forms one form at a time.
