As promised, here is a summary and update of what your OCTRA COVID Proactive Committee has discussed so far, progress made and next steps being taken. It was a very productive meeting.
Action Items:
-
Identify example protocols from other sports or events and global endurance riding best practices (Even prior to COVID) so OCTRA can look at incorporating systems or efficiencies that take us into the future and ensure we aren’t reinventing the wheel
-
Clarify what OCTRA event insurance and OCTRA recognized rider liability insurance will cover
-
First responder sample survey
-
Clarify what various equestrian organization “go ahead” requirements are (such as AERC, EC, etc. and not limited to these by any means)
-
Continue to add to the draft OCTRA Events COVID Protocol where ALL positions can be performed without contact and ensuring safety of our vets who are the one role that must still engage with the horse for the health and safety of the equine. Both human and horse health is a priority in our final protocol template to be shared with the members.
-
Clarify definitions for our event specifics to ensure we meet the Ontario phases of openings as they occur
-
Plan and prepare for a smaller scale, limited registrants “test ride”
-
Long term Big Picture ideas for the board to consider
Our next meeting is schedule for June 8th.
Again, please feel free to share any examples, ideas or questions with your committee chair, Pauline Fleming at paulinefleming123@gmail.com and use “Committee” in the subject.
