Petition for a Safer East Forest

A petition has been organized by the Citizens Committee For A Safer East Forest to ask the Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority board to establish that sections of East Forest –those east of County Rd. #10 – become non-motorized sections of the Ganaraska Forest. Message from Marg Dickson, Life Member of OCTRA:

This petition followed closely on the heels of the incident in the Ganaraska Forest on the Summer’s End Ride. The Citizens’ group had already formed as a result of other problems but this accident spurred us on into the political arena. We have had positive feedback from the Municipality of Port Hope and we are scheduled to present to Hamilton Twp and the GRCA in October.
We are hoping to enlist the help of equestrian users of trails in Ontario since we are apparently outnumbered by the ATV association memberships. There are fewer and fewer trails for passive users in the province. This is our effort to protect what is left through enforcement and education in this area. Thank in advance if you can support our cause.

The OCTRA board voted in favour of notifying the membership of this petition.
